Monday Art in Theory & Writing lecture was designed as a module introduction for the first semester. It was a prelude to the forthcoming lectures (mandatory, ten in total). It also explained how to book on to a seminar/activity/skills session through Moodle. These were again, mandatory and we were to select one from a list of five (five different seminars, five different activities and five different skill sessions). The three main points and considerations for the future were.
The SOI is a written document to be submitted to personal tutor (Lois Wallace) within the next 2-3 weeks that considers personal practise, development and goals. It is also a self appraisal Tuesday I used the morning before the Group Tutorial to decide on which seminar/activity/skill I wanted to attend. The PowerPoint presentation used a very playful way of explaining the three options by relating them to a three-course meal: I opted for:
The booking system opens on Moodle on Wednesday 28th, 10am. 1400: Group Tutorial Today was our first meeting with Lois. It was again a general overview of the Developing Practise Module and overall expectations. There was also another mention of the Statement of Intent. The date of submission is yet to be confirmed. Wednesday 0750: Seminar Booking (Moodle) I set an alarm to get online as early as possible to select the seminar/activity/skill. 1000-1130: Lecture – Art of the Everyday “The everyday is full of ‘wonders’ without names which one needs to be ‘prepared to see’” -de Certeau 1990 Along with several artist and writer names to research in the future (Benjamin Walter, Sophie Taeuber, Chen Zhen), the above quote was also taken from the lecture. I find Readymade art very fascinating. Personally, I relate Readymade artwork with the mind-set of a child. Finding day-to-day, inanimate objects and using them as toys/using them for something that it isn’t designed for. Also, the relationship between Readymade and Installation art. An artist can use everyday objects, made by non-artists to create artwork. The artwork can celebrate the fact that it is not designed for a piece of art, and at the same time be redesigned for an alternative purpose. Thursday & Friday The majority of the time spent in my studio space this week consisted of transporting materials from home over to the university. Once there, and with it being huge piles of papers/books/magazines, a large portion of my time was taken up by organising everything in to related piles.
